Victor DeMarines with V.i. Laboratories will give a presentation at Software Business 2009 titled "Tap Unconventional Methods for Revenue Recovery and Growth in 2009". Vic recently sat down with us and discussed the importance of this topic.
Q: What makes your presentation topic timely in today’s economy?
A: Software publishers are under great pressure to maintain and even grow license revenue. Focus is often placed on license compliance within the install base rather than on discovering new markets for their products. Global emerging markets and growing economies provide great opportunities, but high piracy rates and the lack of intellectual property protection make expansion into these areas risky.
This presentation will review how software publishers can leverage the piracy scene and distribution channels for critical business intelligence on new markets and to uncover opportunities to recover lost license revenue.
Q: Who is your presentation most targeted towards?
A: Individuals involved in license compliance, legal, product management and sales.
Q: How will the information you provide impact attendees or their business operations?
A: The presentation will expose attendees to the world of software piracy, its sophistication, and how expansive the piracy distribution channels are. This information along with a review of strategies that leverage piracy for business intelligence will provide new ideas for tapping this unconventional market to generate additional revenue.
Q: What lasting value will the attendee receive?
A: Attendees will be shown the parallels between ISV and piracy operations around software production, distribution and channels. By gaining an understanding of these parallels, attendees will be able to help their organizations develop more productive strategies to take advantage of piracy and generate revenue through business intelligence.
